A wise ruler thinks about his people. I have wondered for so long. What is Prince Chu’s dream? At the end of the series, I finally understood. It is to bring stability and prosperity to his people—his kingdom. His genuine desire to serve his people with equality. His motto now make sense, “Eradicate all evil” “Regardless of the status, regardless of the connection. Everyone is made equal by the law” which makes him a perfect fit for the throne. It also makes sense why Master Xin Ziyan and the other officials are so loyal to him even though he never promised them great wealth and power.

Like everybody, I was rooting for a happy ending where he marries the love of his life, Feng Zhiwei. I was rooting for them. I was looking for my idea of happy ending. But, I finally understood why they didn’t end up together. Why Feng Zhiwei lied to become his Empress and took her life in the end. It’s because of her identity as the Princess of Dacheng of the previous empire. People will use her to attack the Emperor. The enemies will make use of her identity to turn them from each other and to destroy the kingdom. It will be an endless bloodshed. An endless cycle of pain, causing them to hurt each other for the rest of their lives even if they don’t want to.

Emperor Chu said he cannot follow her yet on the other side. They have so many unfinished business. He needs to make sure he fulfills them before meeting her. This lifetime will be full of pain for him and he cannot end it like she did. Probably, because he lost the love of his life, but his people needs him, they need this wise ruler who will make a lenient and fair law, a ruler that prevents innocent bloods from being shed. I know he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her while fulfilling his dream for a fair government, but with their setup, it can’t be done. She will always be a weapon for the enemy to attack him and the kingdom.

Kudos to The Rise of the Phoenixes team! Thanks for bringing us an awesome series! I commend Ni Ni and Chen Kun for their superb acting skills! It made me fall in love with their characters and their real life personalities. How I wish I can meet them in person or probably become an actress and work with them.
